N/A is pleased to announce NEW ANXIETIES, the first exhibition in Seoul by TOKYO PHOTOGRAPHIC RESEARCH. The exhibition is held at N/A in Seoul, and FF Seoul, a space run by the artist collective FF. This exhibition explores how digital-native generations of artists perceive and reflect on the contemporary world through the lens of cross-cultural exchange between Japanese and Korean artist collectives. The participating artists are Koyama Taisuke, Matsui Yuu, Murata Kei, Ogawa Miyo, Tsukiyama Shota and Yamamoto Hana. The works presented in the exhibition are responses to "new anxieties" created by each artist, inspired by their collective research trip to Seoul in July 2024. We invite you to experience this compelling dialogue between the artists and their interpretations of our era.
TOKYO PHOTOGRAPHIC RESEARCH (TPR) is an artist collective founded by artist Taisuke Koyama, consisting of artists and researchers broadly involved in photographic expression. TPR was established in 2018 to document, express, and archive the rapidly transforming Tokyo through contemporary photography and video, prompted by the large-scale redevelopment associated with the Olympics. With missions such as “multifaceted urban research,” “pragmatic exploration of contemporary photography,” and “developmental research on photographic culture,” TPR aims to visualize the unseen aspects of the city, society, and people, and to carry forward the visions discovered into the future.

Culture, technology, and ideology have accumulated over long periods of time. As their influence grows and layers upon itself, these elements have transformed and fragmented into various forms, eventually becoming perceived as minor or inconsequential aspects of our daily lives. Today, we find ourselves in a world where decisions are shaped by the majority, and we search for landscapes in a reality that seems increasingly devoid of them.
Although I have not personally witnessed these events, ongoing conflicts undermining peace continue to occur around the world, leaving us in a constant state of unease and uncertainty. What we must first do is recognize ourselves as wanderers who have lost sight of clear goals. By facing our feelings of our “anxieties” directly, we can begin to develop a new and more natural way of engaging with the world. Research and artistic creation offer one path, but it is essential to respond intuitively to the ever-changing “now.” Through this exhibition, I hope to confront the horizons that ought to expand and explore the possibilities of what we can continue to share in the future.

TOKYO PHOTOGRAPHIC RESEARCH (TPR)은 예술가 Koyama Taisuke가 창립한 예술가 집단으로, 사진 표현에 폭넓게 참여하는 예술가와 연구자들로 구성되어 있다. TPR은 2018년에 올림픽과 관련된 대규모 재개발로 인해 급변하는 도쿄를 현대 사진과 비디오를 통해 기록하고 표현하며 아카이브하기 위해 설립되었다. “다각적인 도시 연구,” “현대 사진에 대한 실용적 탐구,” “사진 문화에 대한 발전적 연구”와 같은 미션을 가진 TPR은 도시, 사회, 사람들의 보이지 않는 측면을 시각화하고, 발견된 비전을 미래로 이어가기 위해 노력한다.
디지털 네이티브 세대의 예술가들이 일본과 한국의 예술 집단 간의 문화 교류를 통해 현대 세계를 어떻게 인식하고 반영하는지 탐구하는 이번 전시에서는, 2024년 7월 서울에서의 집단 연구 여행을 바탕으로 각자가 경험한 "새로운 불안"을 주제로 한 작품들이 전시된다. 참여하는 작가는 Koyama Taisuke, Matsui Yuu, Murata Kei, Ogawa Miyo, Tsukiyama Shota, Yamamoto Hana이며, 이 전시를 통해 예술가들이 제시하는 시대적 해석과 그들의 독특한 시각을 만나볼 수 있다.

문화, 기술, 그리고 이데올로기는 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 축적되어 왔다. 그 영향이 커지고 층을 이루면서, 이러한 요소들은 다양한 형태로 변형되고 파편화되었으며, 결국 우리 의 일상 속에서 사소하고 하찮은 것으로 인식되기에 이르렀다. 오늘날 우리는 다수에 의해 결정이 좌우되는 세계에 살고 있으며, 점점 더 풍경이 사라진 듯한 현실 속에서 그것을 찾아 헤매고 있다.
비록 내가 직접 그 사건들을 목격하지는 않았지만, 평화를 위협하는 갈등은 여 전히 세계 곳곳에서 계속되고 있으며, 우리는 끊임없는 불안과 확실성 속에 놓여 있 다 . 우리가 먼저 해야 할 일은 뚜렷한 목표를 상실한 방랑자로서의 우리 자신을 인식 하는 것이다. 우리의 "불안" 을 정면으로 마주함으로써, 세상과 보다 새로운 , 그리고 자연스러운 방식으로 관계를 맺기 시작할 수 있다 .
연구와 예술 창작은 그 하나의 방법이 될 수 있지만, 끊임없이 변화하는 지금" 에 직관적으로 반응하는 것이 중요하다. 이 전시를 통해 확장되어야 할 지평선과 마주 하고, 미래에도 우리가 계속해서 공유할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구하고자 한다.
