ANOMALY (Tokyo), together with A Thousand Plateaus Art Space (Chengdu) and N/A (Seoul) are pleased to participate in ACK 2024, present a group exhibition bringing works by Takahiro Iwasaki, Miyuki Tsugami, Rongrong Bi, Qiulin Chen, Hardy Hill, Jiyoon Chung, and Jeman Seo.
Each artist explores the theme of “Memory”, with persistence, transformation, and interpretations of memories across cultural, personal, and historical. As memories shape our identity and cognition, this exhibition aims to offer an immersive journey through artworks with a variety of media, encouraging visitors to reflect on how past experiences inform our present and future. Takahiro Iwasaki creates intricate, ephemeral landscapes from everyday items, re-examing overlooked details in everyday lives, akin to retrieved faded memories. Miyuki Tsugami explores how personal perception shapes the understanding of world in her landscape paintings titled ‘View’, derived from daily sketches. Likewise, Yifan Wu’s creations are autobiographical in nature, observing the subtle relationship between the city and the individual, and draws inspiration from reality and memory. Memories and imaginations about her hometown trigger Qiulin Chen’s creation dealing with ever-shifting time and cities, leading her to those unforeseen reunions and returns. Hardy Hill's prints reveal anthropomorphic figures from his faint memories, creating complex fantasies that explore tension and uncertainty, yet imply a unique perspective on contemporary issues; while Jiyoon Chung Jiyoon Chung explores corporal punishment across generations by using ordinary objects, and questions the reliability of memory by examining how the language of love is used to justify violence. Jeman Seo is trying to reappear the memories from the distant to the near past with personal experience through drawings.
This exhibition not only showcases individual or collective memories but also boosts a dialogue concerning shared human experience across artistic expressions to evoke the interconnection of viewers, even if we live in different environments and backgrounds.
ANOMALY(도쿄)는 A Thousand Plateaus Art Space(청두), 그리고 N/A(서울)와 함께 ACK 2024에 참여하여 다카히로 이와사키, 츠가미 미유키, 비룽룽, 천추린, 하디 힐, 정지윤, 서제만 작가의 작품을 선보이는 그룹전을 개최했다.
각 작가는 문화적, 개인적, 역사적 차원에서 기억의 지속, 변형, 해석을 탐구했으며, 이 전시는 관람객들에게 다양한 매체의 작품을 통해 과거 경험이 현재와 미래에 미치는 영향을 되돌아보게 하는 몰입적 여정을 제공하는 데 목적이 있었다. 다카히로 이와사키는 일상적 사물을 활용해 정교하고 일시적인 풍경을 창조하며, 이는 마치 희미해진 기억을 되찾는 것처럼 일상의 사소한 디테일을 재조명한다. 츠가미 미유키는 일상에서 얻은 스케치를 바탕으로 한 풍경화 시리즈 ‘View’를 통해 개인적 인식이 세계에 대한 이해를 어떻게 형성하는지 탐구했다. 이와 마찬가지로, 이판 우의 작품은 자전적 성격을 띠며 도시와 개인 간의 미묘한 관계를 관찰하고, 현실과 기억에서 영감을 얻는다. 천추린의 작품은 고향에 대한 기억과 상상이 촉발된 작품으로, 끊임없이 변화하는 시간과 도시를 다루며 예기치 못한 재회와 귀환을 상기시킨다. 하디 힐의 판화는 희미한 기억 속에서 등장하는 인간 형상을 드러내며, 복잡한 판타지를 만들어 긴장과 불확실성을 탐구하되 현대 문제에 대한 독특한 관점을 암시한다. 한편 정지윤은 세대를 관통하는 체벌에 대해 일상 사물을 활용해 고찰하며, 폭력을 정당화하기 위해 사랑의 언어가 어떻게 사용되는지를 살펴보며 기억의 신뢰성에 의문을 제기했다. 서제만은 먼 과거부터 가까운 과거에 이르기까지 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 기억을 되살리려 노력했다.
이 전시는 개별적 혹은 집단적 기억을 선보이는 데 그치지 않고, 다양한 예술적 표현을 통해 환경과 배경이 다른 관람객들 간에도 연결감을 불러일으키는 모두에게 해당되는 인간 경험에 대한 대화를 촉진했다.
